How to Choose a Futures Prop Firm
A practical checklist for choosing a futures prop firm: drawdown type, true cost, payout conditions, scaling limits and rules that affect your strategy.

1. Start with your trading style
If you hold trades through swings, an end-of-day drawdown gives more room. If you scalp and rarely hold, an intraday drawdown may cost less and still fit.
2. Compare the real cost, not the sticker price
Add reset fees, activation fees and the cost of repeated attempts. A cheap plan you fail twice may cost more than a pricier plan you pass once.
3. Read the payout conditions
Check the profit split, minimum payout, payout cycle, consistency rules and any buffer requirement. Fast payouts are only useful if you can meet the conditions.
4. Check limits on scaling
If you plan to run several accounts, check how many concurrent accounts are allowed and the maximum total allocation.
5. Confirm platform and rule fit
Make sure the firm supports your platform and data feed, and check the rules on news trading, overnight holding and copy trading before you rely on them.
6. Verify everything on the firm’s site
Prices and rules change often. Use comparison pages to shortlist, then confirm the current rules on the firm’s own site before buying.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cheapest firm the best?
